Radeon 9100/9200

Does anyone know where the 128MB DDR Radeon 9100 & 9200's stand as compared to a GeForce 4 Ti4200?

Are there any major differences between the 9100 and 9200?
thanks

The 9100 is essentially the "old" version R8500LE which runs at 250/250 (newer ones are clocked slower). The 9200 is essentially the same with 8x AGP support (I think).

Neither of which can compete with a ti4200. In fact, even my full retail 128mb R8500 o/c'd at 301/301 can't compete with my 64mb ti4200 in anything but 3dmark (2002/2003).

I'd say if there's any card that the 9100/9200 is comparable to, it's the old GeForce3, which is in between the ti200 and ti500 in performance.

No, sorry.

9100 is 8500 with a new name on.

9200 is 9000 plus 8x AGP; the 9200pro also may run at a higher frequency than the 9000pro.

When comparing 9000pro and 8500/9100, performance was about the same, with one or the other having the edge depending on whether the task was about raw performance or modern features.
With 9200pro's upped clock, the 9100 should be losing out in all aspects.

Past comparisons of ATi and NVidia cards based on 3DMark 2001 can all be discarded since NVidia have been caught cheating massively there.

I've heard that those benchmark "cheating" claims were exaggerated. And, maybe it wasn't cheating after all. Hell, intel does it everyday when comparing it's apples to oranges.

Personally I would take the TI4200 over any Radeon under the 9700 or 9800. The TI4200 blows the doors off of my 9000 Pro.

Notice people throwing the word cheating around when nVidia is caught doing it...but do they mention ATi has been caught recently too? no

have they mentioned that ATi has been caught doing this before? *cough*Quake3*cough* ...no

It is such a pointless arguament.. nVidia cheat, get higher scores, so ATI cheat to even things up - it is quite amusing to note how foolish/biased some people are!!

No, actually I am correct in this. The 9100 is clocked at 250/250, same as the "original" R8500LE. The "full" R8500 was 275/275. I've owned both cards at one time.

There is no "the" 9100 just as there has been no "the" 8500. Many cards from many manufacturers, with all kinds of frequency setups and other features.

On the cheating topic, NVidia have been detecting 3DMark to render at a lower quality to get higher ratings. ATi have been detecting 3DMark to use a specifically optimized rendering algorithm to get higher ratings while maintaining the expected quality.

Big difference - cheating vs. optimizing.

Thanks for all your input, i really appreciate it. I think i will get a ti4200 for my new system. Is the 64mb version much slower than the 128mb version or is the difference between them negligible??

Same here. There is no "the" 4200. Figure out what exactly is being sold to you.
