My tv as my monitor, and a tv card..a little help
well, i will be recieving an old compaq w/ a 1.3 athlon, gf0rce 2 64mb, 384mb sdr ram.....
now the thing is, that i dont have enough space to put another monitor in my room, but i have a 20" tv w/ s video. I know the picture quality is quite lousy on a tv but i will only be using this for teamspeak, and maybe i might turn it into a cow . Anyway, here is my main question, i need a device that will allow me to use the svideo, and have that as my monitor. Will a tv card of somesort work? Also, any suggestions, i would need to have it less than 50 bucks, preferablly less. remember, im not looking to record tv or anything, just to get what i said. thx.
EDIT: would this work

I personally HATE TV's as monitors. They're built differently and just don't reproduce the picture correctly. The picture is barely readable on the ones I've seen. I wouldn't reccommend it. Get a projector if you're really needing something bigger.

not sure what team speak is, but as a cow, who needs a monitor?
plug the one in now to set it up, put some remote control software on, and off you go....
you could probably get a cheap video card that has s-video out. For really cheap, look for something like ATI Rage or Rage Pro, or a little bit more they might have Radeon 7000's with tvout. Hey, I even had a Gef2 mx with tvout that I'm sure you could get for under 50. I've seen gef4 mx's with svideo out for under 50.
Also, you'll be at 640x480 or 800x600, either way, text will be hard to read on a tv. It's ok, for watching videos, dvd's or whatever, but for most else is not really worth it.
good luck, dragonb

i found these 2 cards, any opinions on which i should get? Radeon 9000
--one guy said he couldnt get it to work and it crashed his system, but some of the poeple that buy this stuff are idiots. Radeon 7500
I know the crucial card is good quality, but the other is a 9000 which is better, but i am unsure about the manufacturer, any opinions?

I've put a 9000 in a system before, and for that price it's a great deal. It will even run games. I have a friend who plays morrowind on his(probably at 640x480, but hey it works)
Also, having used 2 Nvidia's and 3 Ati's with tvout, I'd say stick with ATI, I've had a lot less problems working with the tv-out on theirs, although everytime I upgrade drivers, it resets all my settings...drives me crazy.
And for a voice app, sure anything should be fine, thought it sounded like a text chat or something which wouldn't be so great...
