regedit and msconfig keep closing

When I try to open regedit it opens for a split second and then closes. I can't get it to remain open. When I try to open msconfig I get an error message that disappears to quickly to read.

What could be causing this. I have checked for viruses and I have run Adaware and Spybot.

GoodDay
Don't know the deatails but seems like the task is being killed.
Back in the old days there was a software called 'stop212'
that i acsedently found at a japanese FTP site, written by some education institution dude. the operation was simple, it searched for a process with the right title and then it terminated it.-like games. It just showed it was possible.

Any way, the way things are treated in windows9x and XP, ME are difffrent, so tell us the OS version.

- AHH, one more thing, check if you have eaten or spilled stiky things on the keyboard. normaly bios will detect it, but any way, esc/alt-f4key might be locked.

And...This is a copy from PHRACK.ORG, but, try poledit.exe
(included in your install cd).
Something might have 'SOFT' ristricted the applications.
(there is a section where you can select softwares to be forbitten, terminated, ristricted, etc)
(When it's 'HARD' ristricted, it just shows 'something has beed forbidden/ristricted by your administrator' dialog)
In this case, use the skills of hackers, and there is a software called 'polkill.exe', normaly in a zip file,128kb
>Windows Policy Killer 2.0
>Run the app and click Kill if you want to proceed or cancel if you dont.
>This program gets rid of any "policies" that this system has. >Original version by SHADE.
>Made EXE by programmed by Freshman.
Sorry If this dosen't help

Press ctrl + alt + delete to open task manager. Look for a running app, (in mine it was crss.exe) ***DO NOT confuse this with csrss.exe a vital system process*** If you don't find crss.exe then look for apps you dont recognise and shut them down one at a time, clicking start/run/regedit after each one, make note of the apps as you kill each one. When regedit stays open, you have found the culprit. Reboot into safe mode (pressing F4 while booting is the usual way to do this and select boot into safe mode) Next click Start/ Search/ crss (or whatever file you found was the culprit) and delete them. Next open regedit, (***always back up your registry before making changes***)and select 'find' *name of app* and delete the reg entries containing that app. Press F3 (find next) and repeat until you reach the end of the registry. Close regedit and reboot normally. Problem Solved. I think this is a spyware program or a trojan. I am not sure. Nortons didnt detect the exe file, but did detect a couple virus' on a disk I had saved programs from Kazaa on.

I had this same problem and it was alot more than just one spyware process running. Everytime I killed one, three more popped back up. They seem to travel in packs

sounds like the virus/trojan is or was still in your system. Either that, or you killed system essentials and they didnt shut down. One way, would be to simpley write down the processes running in task manager, and enter them into your search bar, look them up online, and mark down which ones are the ones you need. once you have the bad files pinpointed, reboot in safemode, and delete the .exe files. You should be able to open regedit at this point (I think). This is my best guess. I am not a trained tech, but I do tinker about a fair bit. Anyway, I am sure this will most likely work, info from the net will tell you what each process is and does.
