msconfig and regedit keep closing

Something is wrong! When I try to open msconfig.exe I get an error message that disappears too quickly for me to read. And if I try to open Regedit.exe the program opens for one second and disappears. What can be causing this. I have checked for viruses and there are none present. Anyone know what I can do about this?
