PC Build questions

I am buying an Asus A7N8X Deluxe board. my chip is going to be an AMD ATHLON XP 2700 /333 FSB PROCESSOR CPU- OEM now i have 2 questions. I want 512 of the FASTEST ram i can buy. what do you recommend and second what fan should i buy? needs to be good and quiet. (I think this mobo supports fan speed control so that would be a good thing too) Thanks for any respones :-)

ok first off 512 is the size , amount of ram , not the speed . and with that board you want to get 2 sticks of ram to take advantage of the dual channel memory otion on the board . it increases ram performance . if you are running anything but win2k or win xp then 512 total is good if you got the money 1 gig is alittle better , can't have to much ram but you don't get alot of "performance" boost going from 512 to 1 gig . but you do have lots of ram to run lots of progams at 1 time . the speed is rated by pcXXXX if you get the xp2700 and don't plan on overclocking then pc2700 will be fine . if you do want to overclock you will want to get atleast pc3200 or better .

as for heatsink fan if you get the retail version the retail heat sink will be fine even if you overclock it alittle . if you get oem then guiet ones are made by zalman , vantec aeroflow and the glacialtech igloo series or the glaciltech slinet breeze 462 . the silent breeze is the quietest hsf out that does a really good job of cooling a pc .

What are you using the system for? From the sound of it, it might be more worthwhile to take the money and get a good vid card

Sounds like you have some money buring a hole in your pocket. I would say to go with a video card. You will get the most from it.

The A7N8X deluxe supports PC3500 I think... I bought Corsair XMS memory, and it flies pretty well.
