Error installing XP?

I'm installing winXP pro on an older machine and I'm running into issue's which are
memory management problems or IRQL_ or something like that as a problem..

the mother board is a Soyo Sy5SSM
http://www.soyousa.com/products/proddesc.php?id=35

I'm wondering if its a bios setting that I have to change to get this to work because the error would say to disable any bios caching and shadowing to get it to work.

I had winXP installed before, we just reformated and started over just to clean things up... but I can't remember if I had a problem or not when I did it(its been a while and we had a problem butI thought it was hd related and we got a new one .. regardless nothing much has changed since then...

Is there a glitch with installing XP on this motherboard?

thanks,

Ram009

You may check to see if you have the latest bios flash, or just reset the BIOS (usually done w/ a jumper) to the specs it came with.

Does it make sense that it is just the bios? I'll flash it with the latest bios and see what happens. Hopefully I get things to work.

thanks

Make sure your RAM sticks aren't in the wrong slots...you'll never get through it if they are.

Hmm... never thought of that... maybe I'll just go with 1 stick of ram for the installation... just to see if that helps...
Hopefully I get this thing figured out!

Well I tried with 1 stick of RAM, any and probably close to all types of configuration and I still can't get winXP to install on the machine... yet I can get win98 without a problem... I got win xp to install before, just don't know what I'm missing.

any other suggestions?

I had a problem where I couldn't get any OS to install on my computer so I just got a Windows 98 boot disk and ran fdisk /mbr to clear the master boot record. That got me through the install. I mean I tried Win2k3, Win XP, Win2k Pro, and Win2k Server. I mean it worked just fine after I fdisked the mbr. I would give it a try.

I mean before I formatted the mbr it would just give constant BSOD's saying different things. So give it a try. It might just work.

Thanks, I'll give that a go tonight... I used my other computer to install xp and I'm gonna transfer over the hard drive to the computer with the problems and see if it'll load XP.. I tried this with my new machine 2500+ with a Gigabyte board GA-VAX but it wouldn't load into XP.. it would hang before getting in.. so I'vwe tried with another computer but havn't had the chance to pop it in the computer to see if it will work.

thanks
