DSL phone cord length

Okay, I'm setting up my DSL... or at least trying to.

Problem is, that in the room my computer is in, there is no phone jack. But there is a phone jack in the adjacent room. So, I would need at least 20 feet of phone cord to reach into the computer room, but will there be any issues having a phone cord that long?

I suppose I could just keep the modem in the room that the phone jack is in & run an ethernet cable from the modem to the computer, but I'd rather have the modem next to my computer for various reasons.

Any suggestions? Or does the length of the cord matter?

You could get a phone extension cable, and then a microfilter, so you have a socket in your room (better for calls when online as well )

Yeah, but wouldn't a phone extender be the same as just running a long cable?
or not... correct me if I'm wrong.

Grr... cable is so much simpler, I should have just gone with that!

I don't think that having a 20 foot long phone cord from your phone jack to your dsl modem would cause any issues. I have a 12-15 foot phone cord from my outlet to my modem and sign of speed problems. I am actually a lil past the distance from my local phone switch and still get 1380d/l and 228 u/l on a 1500/256 line.

I am so much happier with dsl now than when I had cable. Just curious what DSL service did you go with?

20 ft wouldn't be a problem. Had a good long cord (maybe 18 feet) so the modem would reach the router and switch on the opposite end of the room. Couldn't install a new phone jack, and the customer didn't want the router and switch to be visible when their customers walked in. Long phone cord solved the problem.

Well, around here, the local provider is ALLTEL. That is also what we use for our connection through work.
It's called DSL Lite... Not as fast as your usual DSL speeds (around 250k/sec), but it's only $29/mo with a free modem & stuff.
But... I'm coming off of Roadrunner cable & I can NEVER remember any speeds faster than 200k/sec... So i'm not really at a loss.

The cord length will not cause you any grief.............. been down that road.

Just make sure it doesn't run through/around fluoresent lighting and or stereo speakers.

BUT !!!!

Now would be a great time to start trying WIRELESS.

All you need is a good excuse , and now you have one.

You could always drill a hole through the wall. Make it wide enough for the phone cable and you'll be all set.
