Software-free expandable mp3 player?

Argh, there are just too many mp3 player devices out there! I'm somewhat particular in what I'm looking for, and it doesn't seem to exist. My only basic requirements are as follows:

I'm looking for a device that doesn't require some annoying software interface to be installed on whatever computer I use to upload files. Ideally, it should be something I can plug into any computer with a USB port and be able to upload or download any type of file (not just mp3s).

I know such things exist, as USB flash pens, or whatnot. Here's my other requirement: I'm looking for a device that has upgradeable memory. Something along the lines of a Smartmedia card reader or any of those sorts. On-board memory is good, but rarely enough, and I really like the idea of having removable media, so I can use flash cards like albums or disks.

Is there such thing as an mp3 player that has both of these features? Of course, cost, sound quality, and a number of other things are important, but these two features are my top priority. Please help.

ok first of all these Memory cards are very expensive (i prefer CDs to store them)

but as a good MP3 player with lot of storage is the iPod it works with normal Win PCs too, it's a very good MP3 player it can nearly everything (also play other files than MP3)

but i donnu if it has got a removable media but i guess it has one

those mpman MP3 players are very good too (have one of them MP-F35 T6) but you cant upload MP3s, so dont buy them!

hope i could help

You're not gonna find many players that dont require software. I recently bought the Nomad Zen. It's 20 gigs for 300 bucks plus a ton of features. It is just slightly bigger then the iPod but $200 cheaper. It transfers ver USB 2.0 (compatible with USB1.1) or Firewire. I consider it my best purchase of the year! If you're looking for a hard drive based player, this is the one to get.

The iPod, for one, is a little out of my price range. It also claims to require special software to be installed on any (windows) computer to use it. I primarily work with PCs and playing mp3s is not the only purpose I had in mind for this thing. An HDD based device would work fine, since 10GB or even 5 GB is enough to fit most if not all of my mp3 collection.

The biggest thing, then, is not needing to install software on a computer. The idea is that this would make for a great way to bring files from one place to another. If I go somewhere to give a powerpoint presentation, I could just throw it onto this device, plug it into their computer's USB port, and their computer instantly recognizes it as an external storage device. Drag and drop files, and instantly access the .ppt file.

Having extra space is only necessary because 64 or 128 MB is just not enough for me. So I guess what I really want is either LOTS of space, OR expandable memory.

i think sony brought out a new player that can play nearly every audio file and it has got a kind of a Hard disk in it wich is removable but i dont think you can pay that if the iPod is already expensive (also for me)
