Formatting Old HD

I have this old IBM HD and it has grub or something on it and i cant get it to do anything. I searched for commands and I found stuff about running FDISK but it said unreconized command and Im really lost Ive tried a 98 boot disk and it said non-system disk remove and hit any key to continue. I need help all I want is to get rid of whatever is on it and install windows 2000. Please help.

try booting to either the Windows 2000 cd (may not be bootable) or to Windows 2000 bootdisks...there's a utility to partition/format as part of the installation.

Are you sure the drive is good?and hte jumpers are set correctly. And are you positive the floppy is good.I have gotten the invalid system disk before with a faulty floppy drive, and with a bad HDD.

you could hook it up in a working system and format it.Just slave it to the main drive, and boot to windows, and select format from my computer if all else fails

If your system doesn't detect it then something is wrong...

sounds like the cable is bad or the jumper isn't right .

Are you running 2000 or XP on your system? if you are go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management ...see if the disk is shown there...you can format it from there also.
