Kids Recommended dual AMD processor mobos?

I'm looking for motherboards that people have actual FIRST HAND experience with mobos which will handle dual AMD processors. I will be running either Win2K Pro or Win XP Pro.

Confession time: my experience with VIA chipsets has been negative. I doubt I would even consider a board with VIA.

I'm not looking to break the bank here. I would even consider a board that can use standard SDRAM as long as it will handle a lot of it. And I will not be reaching for the current top of the line CPU's.

Thanks to all who try to help.

Hi there, I have used both the Tyan 2460 and 2466 boards, well they ran ok, they have absolutely no features.

Right now I am using the MSI K7D Master L. Which has a lot more features and has pretty ok overclocking abilities. I have my dual 1800+ running at 2200+, without any voltage tweaks or other fancy stuff.

I believe there are no SDRAM dual MP boards, they are all basically DDR PC2100, and all have the AMD chipset.

But if you are on a budget, the older 2460 boards will probably do for you.

Good Luck!

I can tell you for sure that a Tyan S2466N-4M runs rock stable with Dual AMD processors.

Mntsnow is running aGA-7DPXDW and he seems to have no complaints either..

Hello GB! And thank you.

Regarding the older Tyan boards you referred to, by lack of features do you mean inability to overclock? If so, that may not be a problem for me.

Thank you NDC!

Tyan is the name I kept hearing when I asked friends. I'm not a gamer but I do like to multitask as well as use my PC for video processing. I've got an old dual PIII right now that works well but has severely limited RAM options. And the prices on mid-level AMD processors are very attractive...

I use the GA-7DPXDW+ and have no complaints. It's about on-par price wise with the MSI Master L board, but has some nice features which the MSI board lacks. It DOES support unbuffered DIMMs so you can save some money there, and it has an AGP Pro slot, onboard RAID and support for up to eight IDE devices. It is limited in the field of overclocking, but gives you control of your FSB up to 150MHz.
If you are looking to save money though, get an old model of the Tyan board and you will not be unpleased.

Yes the Tyans are great boards, all my servers use them, but they are expensive and lack features like USB 2.0 and RAID. The MSI and Gigabyte boards are cheaper, and from my experience, the MSI performs just as well as the Tyans.
