Try the program I mentioned. It didn't work with my friend, but he's having connection problems. It's faster than using ISP space.
Here's what you need to do. I could go on and telkl you how to open ports, do the dance, etc. But that sucks. So directly plug both your machines into the modem. Then reboot your machines if you had them turned on (I would personally shut down the machine before plugging it into the modem. Makes it a little easier).
Now open the command prompt on both machines. On Windows 2000 and XP, you access it by going to Start>Run, and typing in 'cmd' minus the quotes. For a 95/98/ME machine, it's the same, but with 'command' instead of 'cmd'. Now type 'ipconfig' minus the quotes, and press enter.
You should see a list of numbers and stuff. Find the number marked 'IP adress'. It should be something like '66.127.65.49' (just a random one I chose, no-ones in particular). Write it down for both of your machines. Now argue over who's machine is to be the 'server' (since you'll be sharing the files, it's logical for you to be the server).
Both of you load that program. The 'server' will choose the directory of the files to share, and click 'start server'. The server then gives his IP to the other guy, dots and all. The other guy types the number into the part of the program that has the 3 dots in it. He then clicks connect.
He should see the files. Doesn't work? Post here as to what the problem was.
