I was given a tower that has a Legend QDI computer/MOBO with a celron 500 and 64 megs of ram.
This machine was supposed to have worked before the owner removed the HD for a barebones system he had.
I took the tower home and pulled a working seagate 2.5 gig drive out of my home system and a working CD rom from my own system and added them to the 500.
booted up with a boot disk so I could put a OS on it, the Bios found the drives and the computer started reading the floppie.
it got as far as asking if I wanted CD rom support and shortly after that question it stops. it dont matter how I answer that question and it never gets to the A: prompt, or any kind of prompt.
Now I also tried to install win2k using the boot to cd method and never get past the blue screens in the beginning, it always stops in various places during that phase.
im at a loss, ive triple checked everything, all jumpers are correct, all ribbions are correct. and both the Cd rom and HD work on my current machine which is a AMD 475 with 64 megs
any help whould be great. Im wondering if I may have a bad IDE and if so would a bad IDE cause a floppie drive to not work as it should.
PS when I say it stops, I mean just that,,, no error messages, it just slows down and stops
thanks for any help
