Outdoors THE DEATH OF FPS'S

I'm scared really scared oh GoD!!!............. am I getting old ........am I going insane...sorry folks but am ashamed almost to tell you I'm finally getting fed up with first person shoot em ups. Have you noticed there all the same these days???? ......where's the originality gone they are clones of clones and then someone decides to bring out another clone of the previous clone I recently got a demo of Raven Shield and played it for a couple of mins and nearly feel off my seat not from excitement I must add I think I feel asleep. I would like someone to restore my faith in the old FPS please before I start playing the Sims or theme hospital or solitaire. I want something new something innovative something a little different is that too much to ask for ......anyone???

I know what you mean, a lot of FPS are very similar. Usually there is one every now and then that is uniqe in some way, and keeps it interesting for me. DOOM3 and Dues Ex 2 should be interesting for example..

they are far from dead. but like any popular genre there's going to be tons of crappy FPS games out there. Not all of them are gonna rock, but there are solid new titles and series like Medal of Honor for example.

Hmph. Well I want to see one where you can blow up anything and everything. If you blast the ground with a rocket launcher it should leave some sort of crater, and buildings should collapse into rubble.

Red Faction rings a bell, but I was disapointed to find that not EVERYTHING was blowupable (about 80% of the levels are, including buildings to an extent. You must have some good weapons to do this with tho, like the rocket launchers). I did make some very large tunnels however (during development fo the game, there was another multiplay option (like CTF, deathmatch, etc) where the whole point was to tunnel to the center of the earth in the fastest possible time. Sounded fun.

Oh, and I don't mean Red Faction 2. That game is crap compared to the original. The graphics are pretty much the same between the two.

From the looks of the HL2 demo...and from what the narrator says, you may just get your wish when HL2 comes out.

and as mentioned above.. Red Faction.. does indeed allow u to blow holes in walls.. or through them.. door locked? blow a hole around it..haha..

frankly, Half-Life2 might have nicer graphics, but its the same. games like DOD, BF1942 that have variety.

Have there been benchmarks for HL2 yet? Just wondering how the higher end GF4s are doing with it.
