Welcome to TechIMO

It's been awhile since I've used that program. In the dialog box that says Save to (or something close to that), are you able to browse the network?

If not, I would shut down any firewalls you have running on either laptop and aslo check the connectivity - see if Windows Explorer can browse the network.

Good Luck!

Mike

thanks for answering mike. i don't understand your references to "network." when i click on the "save to" button it only shows me the drives on the laptop i'm working on....yet the instructions say to save to another hard drive. how?

If you go to the "Deleted Items" and select all the folders and files and then select "Save To", you sould get a dialog box that looks like the attachment at the bottom of this post.

That is said assuming that the two computers are networked and the the lappies don't have two drives.

Another option if the laptops aren't networked and if you have a burner in the laptop you are recovering files from would be to use a formatted CDRW and save it to that.

Let me know if that helps.

thanks again, mike. i'm not networked. thought i could just attach a male-to-male usb cable and work that way. don't have a cd burner but i guess that will be next. how come i can't just save to a floppy? i'm only trying to save my jpg's.

I didn't think of a floppy (most of what I backup / recover would be in gigs).

A floppy will work fine as long as none of you jpg's are bigger than 1.4MB. In that scenerio, just choose the individual files a few at a time until PC Inspector tells you that there isn't any spave left, then start with another floppy. Hopefully you don't have too many jpg's to backup (might be alot of floppies).

I'n not sure on the USB to USB networking (never tried it). What is the model number of your Dell? If they have firewire ports, you can network that way.

CAcool -

I've sometimes had some luck changing the name of the file ie:

a recovered file may have a name of pic.xxx because the recovery program changed it. You still may be able to open it by renaming it pic.jpg.

BTW, help is always here for ya!
