Mandrake 9.1 does not mount CDROMs

I have a problem with Mandrake 9.1 incorrectly mounting CD-ROM drives.
The Windows Drives mount just fine, I have a full access.
The CD-RW mounts as /dev/SCD0 in /mnt/cdrom0 and respectively the DVD mounts as something simmilar.
WhenI try to accee the drives under KDE3.1 I get a message that the device does not seem to exist anymore.
When I check the KDE control center it shows my DVD and CD-RW mountedas cdrom0 and cdrom1 but for Devices shows none.
On Mandrake 9.0 it was /dev/cdrom0 and /dev/cdrom1.
Is my problem with Mandrake 9.1 using wrong devices for my drives??

i couldn't figure out how to mount the cd drives in SuSe 7.0 I've also heard that you can't mount audio cds in Linux, there's a special way to play them, but i could be totally wrong. So if you're working with an audio try to switch to a data cd.

audio CDs have no filesystem so you can't mount them like data CDs.

Pop your CD in and open Noatun or another CD player. You may have to go to the settings and point it to your cdrom drive. Use the dev designation. /dev/scd0 for your burner and probably /dev/scd1 for your DVD drive.

You'll have tuneage in seconds flat.

Germ is right, and you may also have to turn up the sound mixer in order to hear anything -providing your sound card is supported, and most are in current versions of Linux.

In many current versions of LInux the default desktop is KDE, in which there is usually a CDROM icon (for each CD device) on the users (not necessarily on root) desktop by default -simply right click this icon to mount, unmount, or eject a DATA CD.

For more information about mounting drives please see the man pages for "mount" as in..

(what-follows-is-your-command-prompt-and-example)$ man mount

Thanks to all

The drives do mount, just not the Audio CD's.
Data works just fine. I did have a little trouble with sound server, but somehow it's working now.
Thanks to all that replied and helped out.
I'm a Linux newbie on a mission to eliminate the need to use licenced software.
Thanks for all your input.
Cheers!

Well, Linux has a licence. Its just that instead of telling you that you can't do things to it, it says you can do whatever you want with it, so long as it is still free, and the source is availiable when you're done with it.
