I checked this post before ever trying anything with the IEEE 1394 port. I installed premiere 7 and tried to capture ( it worked fine ) and to export ( it didn't work ) and had the same results as you all guys : a black screen even if the timecode is recorded and the tape band written on.
I have another old firewire card. but I needed to install the drivers as I'm working with the quicktime format. So installed some OHCI drivers I found for it. With few tries I managed to install it but and capture with it. I precise it doesn't work with premiere nor with any editing software ( it's an old motodv studio card ).
And here what happened : I came back in premiere ( the motodv is not detected ), I capture, export back to tape and it works ...
It worked ... The output video is perfectly neat on my tv, same as the original captured footage.
So, I don't clearly know what happened here but I guess It has something to do with the OHCI drivers I installed.
go there :
http://www.discreet.com/support/cine.../download.php3
and grab the "1394 driver updater Windows" or the "Driver for XP compatibility with OHCI card". I know my post isn't precise but as I finally get it worked, I felt I had to share it to you guys as it is a pain in the ass that the export function isn't working.
Good luck
