Asus A7N8X Deluxe DV (firewire) Problem

Hi All,

I've got a Sony DCR PC101e and although i can capture video just fine from DV using premiere, i can't dump it back on the tape, i can see what should be there in premiere and i can see something that resembles the video on the camera screen but its very pixelated and blocky.

Has anyone else found this problem with this MB?

Cheers for any help!

Andy

Systems

Hi Andy,
got the same problem with my Panasonic NV-MX7. Capturing works fine with Ulead Media Studio Pro, but putting it back on tape shows only that the camera gets something but the picture is not shown.

Did you solve your problem yet?

The prob is with 2 way communication. Seems some dont like to go both ways only send data over the firewire port, not recieve. THe seriel adaptor in UK is only one way. But in U.S. its two way (sony tech support ~readme's~!). Figure that out. But being firewire it has to be two way capable IF the device IS. Are you sure your cam sends both ways? As I said-not all do. Mine does but its the fancy $900 handycam deal too. If it didnt Id be spitting nickles right now and chewing sony's arse off! But instead Im very impressed with the handycam line. Nice-very nice.

Yes the Camera ist capable of DV-In. With my Canopus EZDV-Card it works perfekt. As I found out the problem must be the motherboard. As I read in other forums, there are many people, who have the same problem and nobody has solved it yet. (There are even boards, where on connector does work and the other does not) Only Asus does not want to hear about it and ignore posts and mails....

In order not to bother and waste more time, I think I am gonna buy a new 1394-adapter and disable that one on the MB.

Yea, Asus tech support is, lacking. I agree. still wainting for a reply to a email I gave them over 2 years ago. LOL. Sorry to hear about the trouble. Seems no easy fix then till they get their tails in gear.

ASUS problem

Hi All..

Got an Email from Asus this morning, their answer was to install the latest drivers. Needless to say i did and it has made no difference..

I've bought a £30 pinnacle firewire card now and am happy using that as it works fine! in fact it works with a DV Handycam AND a DV Video recorder.. Nice...

I'm still nagging ASUS but just for the principle of it

Andy

I also have a Asus A7N8X Deluxe with the same problem. I have a Sony DCR TRV 828E with DV-In but I was not able to export the video to tape. The rest (capturing etc.) works fine. I installed a PCI firewire card (Dynalink IEEE 1394PB) and the problem was "solved". I am very interested in the real solution, so please let me know if there is news about this.

I checked this post before ever trying anything with the IEEE 1394 port. I installed premiere 7 and tried to capture ( it worked fine ) and to export ( it didn't work ) and had the same results as you all guys : a black screen even if the timecode is recorded and the tape band written on.

I have another old firewire card. but I needed to install the drivers as I'm working with the quicktime format. So installed some OHCI drivers I found for it. With few tries I managed to install it but and capture with it. I precise it doesn't work with premiere nor with any editing software ( it's an old motodv studio card ).

And here what happened : I came back in premiere ( the motodv is not detected ), I capture, export back to tape and it works ...
It worked ... The output video is perfectly neat on my tv, same as the original capture tape.

So, I don't clearly know what happened here but I guess I has something to do with the ODCI drivers I installed.

go there : http://www.discreet.com/support/cine.../download.php3
and grab the "1394 driver updater Windows" or the "Driver for XP compatibility with OHCI card". I know my post isn't precise but as I finally get it worked, I felt I had to share it to you guys as it is a pain in the ass that the export function isn't working.

Good luck
