9700 pro softmod to 9800 pro
Can anyone give me more info on softmods for the 9700 pro? I have a Built by ATI AIW 9700 PRO 128mb. Also any overclocking experience/advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Cant remember what thread I got this from but this link was attached. http://www.maxdownloads.com/~ian/wizzard/
Go through it, download the appropriate file (look closely, it's not clearly labeled) and there is another link to a forum that talked some about what to do with it.
Hope this helps. |

I didn't know there was a mod to go from 9700 pro to 9800 pro, considering they are two different architectures.
I did the 9500 pro to 9700 pro mod using the Warp 11 bios...the 9500 and the 9700 are architecturally the same with the exception of the memory bus. The mod works because it re-enables the additonal 4 rendering pipelines on the 9500 pro that were disabled by ATI, and it also unlocks the bios to enable overclocking. But again, it only worked because the two cards are so similar in architecture...won't work on a 9600 pro, the 9500's replacement, because it is a completely new architecture.
So, you can see what can be gained from a 9500 pro to a 9700 pro mod...the 4 additional pipelines and the ability to overclock...what do you hope to gain from modding the 9700 to a 9800? (If it's even possible?)
In response to Omar's concern...there is always the chance you could hose the card...it didn't happen to me...but if you do find that there's a benefit to modding the 9700 to a 9800, I say go for it, take the risk...everything in life is a learning experience...both good and bad :-)

yeah, im not sure if that site was successful with the 9700-9800 softmod. Initially, I thought it was a typo but one of those downloads seem to be present just for this situation. As for their ability to do so by virtue of the engineering, I have no idea.

The softmod is possible for the 9700 pro to 9800. Remember it's a software mod. I did it to mine, but, it doesn't work with the latest drivers.

True. Using that philosophy a honda would perform as well as a lamborgini if they looked the same. The extra performance boost makes the game run faster, you saved the money you would have had to spent otherwise to get those speeds, and you have bragging rights.

Still, it seems a lot better to mod a £50 cpu than a £350 gfx card. Is it really worth it?
