FX5200 OK?

I'm thinking of getting this card for a new build and have a couple of questions.

Is this a good card for gaming (no UT, just maybe Wolf)?. The use for this card is more for the video capture than anything else.

How will that card stack up against my current URL=http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=property&DEPA=1]Ti4200[/URL] in 3DMark 2002SE?

How come the FX5200, 5400, 5600 are so cheap? Do they suck that much?

I've read the reviews over the past few months on the FX cards and relize they don't compete with the ATI 9700, 9800's but I want to stick with nVidia (I don't like ATI ). I also don't want to shell out the bucks for a 5900.

Comments, suggestions?

TIA!

Mike

the ti 4200 is better than the fx5200 by far . fx5200 is a good card if you are on a low budget . and for what the one you linked cost i would get a ti 4200 instead .

I found another but a 5600 with 256MB of ram for $50 more here . Looks pretty sweet and I like Leadtek.

I was under the impression that the FX cards took up two slots - niether pictures of the two cards look like they do??

i'd say go for a GF4 Ti4200 for like the same price ($175). Only the upper end FXs take up two slots (5800 & 5900). If your're on a budget get a GF3 Ti200 Golden Pack card for $80.

for the price of the first card you linked i would get a ti4200 instead . it will play games better . unless you need the video editsoftware that comes with it .if you have to have a fx card either get a cheaper fx5200 or wait alittle bit and get a 5900 don't waste your money on the 5600. they just don't preform for the money they cost and what you can get in other cards . the blocking of a pci slot isn't really a big deal now adays with motherboards haveing onboard nic's and sound . and you wouldn't use the first pci slot anyway because it shares the irq with the apg slot on most motherboards .

I guess I'll wait a bit for the 5900's to drop.

I haven't had a chance to keep up with the video card wars in the past few months and got taken back with the 256MB of memory on the second link. I wondered why it was so cheap.

It's funny that nVidia released these chipsets that appear to be sub-par what they normally come out with.

I usually buy the model one down from the fastest and steer clear of the budget cards. I kinda feel like I almost got suckered into buying a card that will be more of a joke in the near future - kinda like the few people who bought laser disk players (my brother still has one).

Thanks all!

Mike
