What version of Media player are you using? Also, what kind of video card is installed and does it have all the latest drivers? have you tried avi or wmv files?

Its media player 9, the one that it comes with. The video card is a gf4 ti4200 from Asus, it has the latest Nvidia drivers installed, along with Direct X 9. Yep it plays back Divx files just fine, havent tried wmv, seems to be only mpeg files for some reason.

What if you use a 3rd party app to play the mpegs, like Winamp, or a DVD player? Is it colored?

Maybe it's a corrupt windows file used to play videos...I don't have Server 2003...I wonder if anyone else is having this issue.

Maybe you should put it on another system and see if it does the same thing

Systems

Having the same problem with Server 2003 Enterprise. Running on a fairly new (less than a year old) MSI KT-333 Ultra motherboard with an Nvidia MX440 GEforce II video card. Got the latest Nvidia WHQL approved driver update and MSI's latest AMI chipset updates and still no difference. Anyone hearing of a MS tech bulletin on this, please private message me (to alert my e-mail). I would be interested to know if there is a fix or patch available. WMP9 seems to have issues with upside down video also which can be fixed with DivxG400 (been there, done that already). I get this sinking feeling I'm back in a bloated version of Win95. :-(
