problem with sound from computer!

My computer is making some crackling noises whenever i play mp3's on my computer now. Please help me! Btw, i'm using the integrated audio chip but there was never any problems with it until now. Please help me! Thanks. P.S. i have also tried different speakers and players and even mp3s but the crackling noises still come up.

I would start by updating drivers...otherwise may want to upgrade to pci sound card ...onboard can be iffy...depends on board...
what r your specs?

does it happen when your sound source is somehting other than an mp3? like a CD or ingame sound?

My setup is

soyo kt333 dragon ultra platinum mobo
amd athlon xp 1800+ oc'ed to 1.86ghz
1GB pc2100 ddr
cdrw and dvd drive
500watt psu
no sound card as you guys already know
geforce 4 mx440 64MB vid card

I also forgot to say that the crackling noise is also in any kind of sound that comes out of the comptuer such as computer games or music.

thats the motherboard i am typing on now . i havd a 5.1 audigy . might be the drivers for the onboard sound . or even the connection have you tryed different headphone or speakers .

still sounds like a driver issue to me. You can go here and download the appropriate driver for your Operating system. I use this exact same mainboard as you do and have no problems with this driver and my C-media onboard sound(when I use it.......weekend LAN parties...I have an external PCI GTXP at home). I use the Windows XP version as thats the OS I'm running on. If this does not fix the situation see if its a cable issue.......cables can and do go bad especially near connector points(I'm talking about your audio cables from your speakers. If you determine it to be not related to the driver or cables then I would contact Soyo about the issue and see what they have to say about it.


Edit: On that same link above I just noticed a bit further down the page there is a link to a .zip file with an older version of the C-media driver if the newest doesnt work.....give it a try also.

Many motherboards that use the AC97 sound system (probably others too) have problems with crackling if your volume sliders are up more than about 75%. Try turning all of the volume sliders down some and see if that helps (WAV, CD, AUX, MIC, etc).

I'm happy to report that i am having no more crackling noises now because i just dusted the area around the audio chip and blew it a few times. You wouldn't have believed how much dust came out of it. Now everything is great!
