I hope poor imt400 will not be too annoyed at the highjacking of his thread, and will post back what has happened and if he has fixed his problem.

We do like nice, neat endings here. Makes for better help for others.

Cheers
Mick

1. I mean a physical router is worthless to anyone who has old systems laying around.

2. I don't want to fight IPCop getting ISA cards working.

3. You're assuming how much power costs...lets assume it's .0001 cents...I just did the same thing you did.

4. Why would I need a monitor for this system? Small PSU, cpu, board, hard drive, NICs...done.

5. Look at how many people fight with Linksys routers...I know I used to fight with the one we had for our cable connection at school...I am a linux newb...and it takes under 3 minutes to install AND configure Smoothwall

Err..to anyone???

He excluded the monitor tho.

"You're assuming how much power costs...lets assume it's .0001 cents...I just did the same thing you did." - Oh come on! Let's keep this conversation on a mature level now, please.

Why don't you accept that Linksys routers can do the job for some people, while others might be better off with a PC router? Bottom line is that every solution doesn't suit every person.

Can you read? That WAS my whole point...routers ARE NOT necessary to share internet connections.

And once again, could you please act mature?

"Can you read?" Well take a wild guess...

No you don't need a router to share an internet connection. I was however talking about router solutions.

You accuse me of saying something untrue when your point is exactly what I said...

Can you please think before you do that?

This whole conversation is a bit pointless, IMO.

Can we not just agreed to disagree on which is the "best" router solution?

I happen to like a dedicated linux distro software router, but I do understand that hardware routers are much better for some folks who just want to plug-and-play, if I can be excused for using those terms.

Anyhow, how did imt4000 get on, is what i want to know. Did we help or hinder him?

By all means, start another thread to discuss the merits of hardware versus software routers, but lets try to stick with the problem at hand here, please?

Cheers
Mick
