Kids Which memory for oldie?

My dad just got ahold of some old k-mart bluelight special computer from somebody at work. It has 32megs of pc100 memory. I wanted to put a little extra memory in it for him. What memory would be the fastest compatible memory?

it's a 633mhz celeron if that helps.

It might support PC133...if it came with a manual, look thrugh that...if not check out the manufacturer's website and maybe you could find some info on it.

If you can stick PC133 in it (likely), then go for that. It's not mucxh more expensive than PC100 really, except when you buy generic.

Since it's newer than 400mhz, then it most likely will run PC133 no sweat.

Most PC133s will downclock to 100 if the mobo doesn't support 133.

I would go for whatevers cheaper whether it be PC100 or PC133. It was weird a couple of months ago when I went to CompUSA a few months ago and the PC133 sticks were cheaper than the PC100 sticks. Go figure.

just check it out first . try to find some kind of id for the motherboard so you can look it up . it might only be able to see up to 128 or 256 at most per stick . be a bummer to get a 512 or a 256 and find out that the motherboard only support dimms up to 128 . and like others said get 133 , it is cheaper than 100 most the time , eve if it doesn't support 133 it should downclock as BTS said .

I had the same problem. I had 32 MB of ram and thought "just buy a stick of 512MB." I did, and when I put it in a figured out the board could only read up to 128MB SINGLE sided! Which meant that if it was a 128MB stick, but had 64MB on each side, it wouldn't work. Figured taht out the hard way too.

Evetually I bought two pc133 128MB SINGLE sided. They both clokced down to 66mhz (the mobo's FSB) perfectly.

Some PC133 sticks won't clock down to PC100, according to some Kingston stuff I got from BestBuy.
