Suspicious Emails...

I have gotten a couple of emails in the last week or so, one subject line said "You have installed a Microsoft Beta program" without any text in the body. the other said "Online checkup... " again without any text in the body of the mesage. There weren't any attachments and both came through Telnor.net ( seems to be a Mexican M$ website) but that could have been forged. I think it's spammers trolling for good email addy's and are exoecting me to respond with something like "Hey I got your email but it didn't all come through" or something to that effect. What do y'all think?

Yah, me too.

Awhile ago I was getting the 'Microsoft' emails. Now I get either the 'Movie' email or the 'your resume' ones.

I just delete them all.

You'll keep getting these for a bit, most likely, but keep just deleteing them. They are just checking out your email addy, most likely.

If you respond in any way (like clicking a link that says "Click here if you do NOT want these emails", then you'll be marked as a live address and the spam will commence in earnest!

So just delete them. If possible, don't even read them, or better still, bounce that particular address if your email prog will allow that.

Cheers
Mick

With most emails, simply opening them will tell whoever that you're a live address because they're in html...since I've started deleting EVERYTHING I get that looks like spam without even opening it I've been getting less and less

True, telexen: and those using OE and using the view pane are actually opening it when viewing!

So if you're getting lots of spam, close the view pane.

Cheers

Get a program like mail washer so you can preview the mails without opening them. Any mail you don't like, bouce 'em.

Or you could just use webmail for 'working' email... That's what I do.

Doing that just adds to the problem. Don't bounce spam!
