Systems dead motherboard?

I have a Gigabyte GA-7dx motherboard. 1.8gig athalon xp 40 gig hd and 512 pc2100. I installed a new dvd-writer and it worked fine. I adjusted the bus and I installed some other software and now the computer will not boot up. when I power on the red light on the front of the case comes on but no green lights other than the lights on the DVD rom and the Cd-rw. I have power because the fans come on etc but no signal to my monitor. the MB also makes no beaps or anything.

Hmmm, this happened to me twice on 2 different systems.

1st time, a K7S5A board with blown voltage regulators: Unlikely your problem.

2nd time, a 350w power supply that just didn't want to carry on life, so it died.

I'ld try a different power supply, since you were adding drives and that's when it died I'ld strongly believe that's your problem. (likely the 5v/3.3v rail has been overloaded and blew, the 12v rail still works since you are getting power to fans etc. if you have a meter hit the power switch and measure the voltage from red-black and yellow-black on a harddrive connector, you'll probably find one reads 12v, the other 0.

if you adjusted you setting and now it will not boot up then you exceeded your mobos limits for FSB and it wont boot...you need to clear the CMOS and reset the bios to lower settings or original.
Look in your manual or online and find the jumper for "clear CMOS" and with power off...pull jumper and move it over one pin...count to 5 and put back to original position, reboot and go into your bios and lower settings or adjust to lower than what youset when you changed them.

pull the dvd writer back out and try and see if it boots . if it does then i would say the power supply just can't cut it with the dvd writer .

Outdoors still not working

I checked the voltage...on the red and black I got 5 volts and on the yellow and black I got 12 volts. so unfortunately it is not the power supply. I unplugged the dvd writer and the cd-rw and still nothing. Does anybody else have any suggestions? Everybody who has helped so far I greatly appreciate it and I also appreciate any future help from any other members.

Hmm by checking the voltage on the power supply doesnt actually mean that its working properly it also depends how much wattage the power supply sends out. you might have power but no watts. If that makes any sense it could be possible that the power supply is no good. Do you get any beeps at all?

no beeps at all

Is there any way to check wattage? It does make sense what you are saying. The power supply that I have is A+ 400W Dual Fan. I am pretty sure this is my power supply: http://www.amastore.com/agbpp4atx402.html

I had 3 drives hooked up: 1-40 gig hd, ati RADEON 9500 PRO video card, canddeyne dvd-rw, cd-rw, floppy and 1 fan that fits into card slot.

If the power supply is good, it should be able to handle this.

I get no beeps at all....as soon as the power comes on I get a red light on the case and 2 green lights flash on the dvd-rw and cd-rw and then that is it. All I hear is the wine of the fans that start up.....and that is all.

I double checked all my conections. Like I said I installed some new software after installing the dvd-rw drive...(installed the software actually using the dvd-rw drive turned it off, adjusted the bus speed and then after that nothing.

I would try once again to clear the cmos. Unplug the pc, and move the jumper to "clear" with the battery removed. If this doesn't help I would check the seating of the ram and cpu and the video card, if this still doesn't help I would take the machine apart and place the board on a non conductive surface and try to boot with just the board, ram, cpu and video. If it still won't go it is time to start swapping out parts. Good Luck

Ok..I took everything off the mobo...unplugged the processor, the memory, switched the jumper for clear cmos several times both with and without the battery. Then i put everything back except for the memory....and still nothing happened...no beeps or anything. Is it probaly safe to say it is the Mobo?
