uprade to xp? or stick with 98

Keeping in mind that I can get xp pro edition for free
my system runs at 1000 Mhz so i dont have a problem with speed or anything. oh, is it true that xp is able to tell when your using copied software

Firstly, you shouldn't have said that last bit.
XP can't tel whether software is pirated. It does have some protection built into it, but assuming you either get a legal or corp version, you won't have a problem with that.
What type of CPU? Athlon, Duron, Pentium?
It will run ok on any of them, don't bother with a celeron though.
Don't bother unless you have at least 256mb ram either.
XP will run games and stuff better than 98, and will probably start up faster. Go for it if you want.

I agree, XP is better, and it has been a lot more stable for me. It even runs good on a 350mhz amd k6-2.

Agreed...98 was 5 years ago XP is sooo much better. A lot of people still think Win2k is even better than XP, but I can't speak for that. Upgrade to one of the two and you won't be sorry.

XP has been running my system faster an more stable that Win98 did... games, photo editing and DVD playback all seem to be noticeably smoother!

youl be good with anything over 256.

got a 1ghz P3 with 384 and it runs 2k fine so you should be good for xp
