ccoldwater is on a distinguished road
Cutting FD Cables

I bought round FD cables but it has two end on it for two different floppy's can i cut the far off? I dont need it. this would get rid of some of the clutter in my box.

last time i tried i rendered it useless. thats how i learned.............then again that was a flat cable but i imagine its the same.

I'm not so sure about it, because the FD cqble has a set of twisted wires in it ( on purpose ) to make it work
notice it on a standard ribbon floopy cable

also rounded cables are very cheap buy 2 and try it

Yes you can---have a look in your bios to change it to boot from the 2nd connect rather then the first (its been awhile and my mem escapes me for the correct "terminology") but its there and a simple toggle...

Thanks your highness ill give it a try if it dont work i got a flat ribbon lying around that i can use till i get a new round one.

or better idea. ill practice on the ribbon first

i havnt had time because my vid card fan went out and that has a little larger priority. im gonna do a little modding while i got the chance. so thats where im at. ill do this tho eventually.

The part of the cable after the twist is drive A:\ so to get it to run with drive A:\ without the end you'll have to go into the BIOS, go into Features, then enable floppy drive swap, then go to Standard, then set the drive up as A:\. Doing that would put the drive on B:\ but will make the OS think its A:\
