ZoneAlarm Upgrade

I get the assumption that zonealarm leaves its files/registries everywhere and have heard people having difficulties trying to uninstall the program compeltely.

I was just wondering if it would be safer to upgrade by just installing a newer version on top of the older one or should I first do an uninstall in safe mode?

Yeah ZA does leave quite a lot behind when uninstalled.

But when upgrading ZA, I just should it down via the systray icon and install the new version. You then get the option to do an upgrade install (which retains your settings) or a clean install. I chose clean install as it doesn't take me long to set it up. No need for safe mode.
