Kids CAT5 -- help

i have 2 problems:
1) some clown cut thru several of my 22ga UTP 4 pair cat5 cables in the middle of a 100' run -- i need to repair them... i do not want to make new runs... is there an acceptible splicing method (e.g. 110 or 66 punchdown block)

2) i also want to relocate my primary equipment room and would like to "jumper" the 2 rooms together. is it acceptible to run 25 pair cable and terminate each 4 pair grouping at a CAT5/RJ45 cross-connect panel at each end? (see attached file for more detail)

You can put 2 RJ45 jacks on them and use a coupler, I'ld say that would be the best bet.

I doubt using a 25 pair cable would be acceptible, the pairs in a cat5 are matched for length and twists etc. if your network is 10base then you might get away with it, but I would not recommend it, instead you can use a 110 punchdown to "patch" together individual cables, or use couplers as I mentioned above (being the recommended method)

Also be sure to beat the clown that cut the cabling.

Well,
you have 2 options:
66 block or 110 block that is CAT5 rated is perfectly fine, as long as you maintain your twist per 1/2 inch at the punch down blocks. I have done that in the past with no degredation on the cables, and they've passed fine with a Penta-Scanner.
As par as a 25-pair cable, they do make it in a CAT5 rated cable, but is pricey. Would be cheaper to run individual CAT5 4-pairs. Also make sure yor runs from eqipment to workstation does not exceed 100 meters end to end (that includes your patch cables).
Good luck to you,
Darius
