NTLDR missing - need to retreive work of drive

hi i was browsing the internet and my comp crashed and came up with "NTLDR missing" upon reboot

i have xp home OS system

but my compy has no proper xp disk ive just got the manufacturers crappy reboot one

can i get something to mend the problem as ive looked on here and looked like most people have to reboot their system reinstalling windows to sort the problem

the thing is my uni work from this year is on it - is there a way i can hook this up to another computer to burn my files to cd?
i really need to retreive files before i reinstall

i have another comp runnin win 98
ive got the drive workingon it and it knows its size of the drive and what empty/full on it but there are no files on view

im stressed to hell bout it as although the work has been handed in ive worked hard all year and its annoyed me to hell

u need a drive running the ntfs file system, then you should be able to view the contents of the drive (win98 can not see ntfs file systems), i had the same thing happen to me, after a bit of fighting with it, i figured out how to get by it, i put in my win2k disk in the cdrom drive and used the nt loader off that. dotn know what happened, but i managed to get all my data off the drive, then reformatted. just my $0.02, maybe it will help.
