IDE Problem

I have an old system I'm working on,and when I boot it up, it always finds the HDD as pri slave. No matter what jumper,or where I place it on the ribbon.I have tried different HDDs ribbons, and tried to switch the cable around, still no go.

Anyone have an answer to this.

Shuttle Hot55a board,socket 7
200 AMD
32 MB ram

TIA

It is possible when you start putting the cable on backwards, or on the wrong spot to reverse the polarity of the drive.

Maybe you need to take the jumper off?

Some drives have jumper spots for master/slave, PLUS spots for master with a slave, single drive, etc.

I have tried a Maxtor,WD,and Samsung HDD a couple of different IDE cables, various settings, and ribbon positions.
Also when the HDD is hooked up, it won't boot from a floppy, but if I unhook the HDD it will.

I have it set up with HDD on the first COnnector, and CD-ROM on the last,I have tried switching them around, and it still sees the HDD as pri slave.

Sounding more like a bad MOBO
