you want to wipe without the hassle of reinstalling?

if you want to reload you will have to reload the os.

just pop in the winxp cd, go into the bios and set the cd rom to boot first

restart and follow the screen

you'd have more hassle trying to wipe out everything to make it look like only Windows XP was installed.

I agree with GZ3, you'll need to reload the os. not only that you will have a far better running system without a bunch of garbage left in the registry as well.

i also agree...you'll never be able to get windows back to the way it was on a fresh install w/o reinstalling it. especially if you want to wipe the drive.

If you made a Restore Point when you installed, (it may even be done for you automatically). Then you can restore your computer under Windows XP to the period right after installation. You will then have a clean and fresh system.

1. don't double post
2. You can't skip reinstalling everything...there is the system restore option...but in my opionion it's the biggest waste of time Microsoft has ever created. Formatting's not a big deal...I do it fairly often and never spend much more than 2 hours installing everything I use.

I think the system restore option is quite handy if you dont want to spend 2 hours reinstalling. It works, so IMO it can't be a waste of time

System restore ONLY resets your settings, registry, etc.
It does not roll back your harddrive to right after you installed XP.
You will still have all the same programs and documents you have now...the ONLY way to have only XP installed with no other data is to format and reinstall.
