Systems cant start my pc =(

hello. i am new here.

i tried to put a "cooler master" fan (cp5-6j11c-ol)
to my mother board (msi ms 6378) with a 1 g duron cpu.

it went only around 10 seconds before the pc shuted down automatically.

now i cant even start the pc! :\
something weird with the power (dc stuffs).

someone said that the mother board is dead from now on.

and someone said that the fan and the mother board doesnt suit together.

---------

another thing is that i broke the 1 of the little thing on the mother board which holds the fan into the mother board.
so the fan doesnt 100% hold into the cpu :\
is this important?

--------

what can i do? and does the fan"cp5-6j11c-ol" suits the "ms 6378"?

please help...

If the HSF is made for the socket A platform, and it's rated for the speed of the processor you are using, then it will be just fine. I cannot, however, find a picture of the particular HSF you have, so I'm left to wonder whether the clips use all three plastic lugs, or just one. If you snapped off the center lug on either side, and the clip only holds one lug, then I'm thinking you burnt out the CPU. But if you snapped off one lug and the clip holds all three on both sides, then you can still use the cooler. Did you apply a thermal interface material between the cooler and CPU? Did you use the tape or pad that came with the unit, and if so, did you remove any protective plastic covering the TIM? Sounds to me like you fried the CPU, one way or another. Did you just recently purchase this cooler? And if you did, could you post a link to where you got it from?

i cant find a picture of the fan too.
but it uses 1 lug each side (now just once since i broke 1).

and i think it did had a thermal inferface on it (some weird thing).

it didnt came with tape or pad, and i dont think it had any protective plastic coverting the tim. (and not sure what TIM is) :\

and yes i bought this cooler for some days ago.
the link is http://www.startit.no

hm... fired the cpu!?
someone said that i might have fired the mother board :\
how do i find out what i have been fired?

when i press the "power" button, the cpu fan goes for less than 1 second, then nothing happens. so the motherboard might not have been fired since this happens? :\

what can i do ?

It most likely won't boot because it doesn't get a signal from a fan connection...it's a feature so your CPU doens't overheat...

There might be a jumper to turn off that feature though.

It's only being held on with one lug???
Probably means theres little or no thermal contact, which may cause the system to automatically cut out.

If that is the case, I'd suggest something like the Volcano 9 (which uses a 3 point clip to connect to the CPU) - I'd try that before having to replace the CPU and/or the motherboard??

Since you broke a lug off the processor holder on the mobo.. i would go get a volcano 9 like Daz says above... the last thing you need if for you to have your computer on.. and go take a leak.. and find out when you get back that the fan fell off the processor.. cracked your AGP card.. and your processor got fried.. along with the mobo...
suggestion to replace the hsf... take the mobo totally out of the case and remove any RAM you have ... when you put the new hsf on.. clip the side facing the back of the mobo first (towards the back panel connections) .. then use needle nose pliers to gently pull the clip down on the other side and clip into place.

Also.. some mobo's seem to have three leads to connect your CPU FAN to... and if the mobo doesnt see anything on the third (temp) lead.. it will shutdown system. workaroud is to connect the temp lead to the CPU FAN 1 socket.. and the power leads to another socket.

thanks telexen, daz and beppodmime tazzin.. ^

hm...so the conclusion is there is no thermal contact~~
it seems corret since i broke the lug -_-
and i will try to get a 3 point clip to connect the fan ^^

thanks all :\

Just a short note of another advantage I found with the V9, that the clip actually has a shaped part to the clip that stops your screwdriver from slipping and causing any more damage when you're fitting the heatsink
