Possible virus, but which one???

My cd-rom and cd-rw are both not working, which i can only think the driver is corrupted, this is what error i get in the device manager

Quote:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
I would think this was just a corrupted driver, but now i'm not so sure, my alcohol 120% virtual drive isn't working either.

i'm running AVG and then norton AV 8 corperate edition. I have updated both with the latest deffinitions, nothing has been picked up with a real time scanner
I have ran anti-trojan 5.5 v420 with the latest trojan deffinitions.

My direct3d has seemed to have gone out and i only see the screen at 640x480@4bit. i've tried a differen't driver and i'm using direct x 9a.

I'm going to run etrust 7 if i can't find anything,
any ideas on what you may think is the problem? These are the only symptoms i have seen so far. which are both a big problem, my buddy has told me about him getting this problem as well with the cd-roms.
I don't run anything but online email services, nor have i been opening anythiing recently since i installed windows 2003.

Yes i did install easy cd creator 6 and i have nero 10.5.10.35.
I'm wondering if anyone has a similar happening?
I don't think it's win2k3 related as my buddy had this similar happening with windows xp pro.
I will uninstall that as soon as norton av is done since avg completed sucessfully.

Well that actually worked for the cd-roms thanks alot
I'm not sure what was wrong with my direct 3d failing when i booted into windows giving me a 640x480@4bit res.
I'm trying to figure out what was wrong, but that actually did the trick with the cd-roms. thanks very much

This happend to me when i tried to install that easy cd creater 6 and it deleted my cd-r drivers, my cd- and dvd -r wouldnt work, I looked in the norton protected bin and my drivers were in there and i took them out off the bin and reinstalled them and the the 2 drives were OK. hope this helps :-)

Well thanks, i don't think i will try that. I use windows server 2003, it's my server/workstation. so i can't use norton systemworks with the servers. I instead use Norton's AV corp 8.1 edition. Also O&O defrag for servers which makes up for norton.
I have easy recovery professional that i may see if my nvidia drivers get messed up, it's a good idea none the less.
GZ3's link however solved this problem.
