M$ optical mouse freezes (light flashing)

Hey guys, I turn to you again in my time of need!

Once again M$ has failed me, this time with their oh-so-high-quality (but cheap) hardware.

My wireless optical mouse has decided to stop working.

I have installed no new software or hardware to my windows 2K pro (SP3) OS.

The problem is that the mouse pointer will freeze randomly for minutes at a time, then randomly start working again, for seconds at a time. When the mouse is not working, the light flashes like crazy leading me to believe it is a hardware problem not a software.

I didn't re-install batteries before the problem happened, should I try new ones?

Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. You have saved me before, I hope you save me again!

AnotherGuy

I would start with the batteries how long since you changed them out?

droppyale...I too am usually a fan of the "if it dont work, hit it...if it still dont work, hit it harder" method...but the mouse i new...about a month old.

That would also be when I last replaced the batteries, a month ago...I certainly hope they arent dead already, this could be an expensive mouse.

That's the spirit!

I might be the batteries... I used to have that prob too... the would run out too fast. Specially if you play games and surf a lot.

If you don't mind spending a few $$

I would recommend getting this mouse http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage....123-114-04.jpg

Has the same feel as the M$ one, but rechargable batteries, and charger included....

and it has the same features as the Logitech MX700

I love it.

lol if you do return it I would recomend mx700 if you dont mind the money - very good mouse - also with somehting like a mouse which can take months of use to discover problems its always good to ask on forms like this one if people have had any probs with it

and they will replace your mouse for free and ship it to you.
that's what i did when my pooped out. you can say all you want about how bad ms is, but if there producty is faulty they will replace it.

I wouldn't want a mouse either that needs new batteries every month.
