sdsl router w/adsl verizon ?

i have a netopia covad r7200 sdsl router. trying to get it to work on my verizon adsl service. can this happen?

i know about an add-on for the router that coast about $100 that will enable it. Not worth it to do that. I'm hoping there's a way to configure the sdsl router to work with the adsl service.

i've already updated all firmware on the router to the lastest versions.

thanks in advance for any help/suggestions

Do you know what the vpi/vci code is from Verizon? You will need that and have to go into the router and set it up manually. Once you do that it should work fine. Do not expect any help from Verizon they will only support their junk. Good Luck

No...sDSL and aDSL are two different technologies...

Even if the router explicitly supports aDSL, that doesn't mean it'll support Verizon's choice of encoding .. (G.lite, et cetra).

Oops, my response may of looked like it was directed at rockpile, and almost looked offensive in that respect (Holier-than-thou complex)

But I wanted to say it was directed to Rico Mania, and not meant to sound mean..

Why shouldn't his router work? SDSL is still very close to ADSL, the only real difference is speed syncronization. One is asynchronous and the other is syncronous meaning the only difference is in upload/download rates. If you have ADSL rated at 512/128 then your ISP just jacks the speed up to 512/512, your DSL is now SDSL. Absolutely nothing has changed aside from the upload speed and the name.
