Kids Mapped drives in WIN XP PRO

Anyone have any ideas on why windows xp pro will not reconnect mapped network drives at logon. The box to reconnect is checked.

In older WinNT servers, sometimes you need to wait at the Login screen for up to 2 minutes or so before entering network/domain password. One server we use is like this. I have to let it idle on the the Login screen for at least two minuites. Then I login and mapped drives are re-connected. If I try to login too quikly the connections are never re-established. Maybe your having a similar problem. Try this and see if it helps.

No this didn't work either. It is a samba drive.
\\samba\sharename
plaintext password is enabled in order to connect it just won't reconnect at logon.

Have you trippled checked the shares and permission on the box your connecting to? Are you getting prompted for a username/password? If so, what hapens when you try to log on.

Of coruse, the other machine is up and fully running isn't it?

No prompt for a user name and password actually all I want is the box to come for the user name and password. This only happens with xp no problems with 2k. If you click on the drive thru my computer the login prompt comes up.

Do they show up in the windows explorer as being unconnection, or are they not there at all?

They show up as being not connected. I get a ballon that says not able to connect network drives click here for info. but there is no info. Just takes me to my computer where it show the drive not connected. If i click on the drive it will prompt me to connect.

i will not start another thread, since this seems to be a similar problem i am having - trying to map from my Dell Win XP Pro to an old laptop which has Win 95B on it.
The laptop has permissions set up on the folder; both machines are on the same wireless network, but
sometimes the Dell sees the laptop share , and most of the times it doesn't. When I try to map to the laptop share, it says the usual "network path not found" ...
once or twice the laptop showed in Dell's "workgroup computers", but other times it didn't.
same problem trying to share a printer between the 2 machines
i checked the firewalls they are not complaining of any blocks
(you should check that in case you have firewall in between).

i am going to call Dell to find out if they know of any bugs ...

sounds like a tough one. I was almost sure my solution was going to work for you. I thought the senior IT tech where I work was nuts when he first explained this to me. Then I saw it for myself. Machine boots......all kinds of activity for a minute....loading drivers etc... then two minutes of quiet down time...no HDD activity etc...... After that period I hear some sudden HDD activity for another 10 seconds.......I then type in user/pass and hit Enter. Mapped drives connect. If I hit any key before my wait times...the maps wont connect. I would like to know what solution you find in this matter if there is one as it might relate to my wait times...maybe.

rhythm5 - win9x OS uses netbeui protocol to share drives & printers but Microsoft stopped supporting netbeui for WinXP. I had the same problem trying to connect to Win9x shared resources on my laptop from my desktop running XP Pro, so I found a third party netbeui protocol, installed it, and everything work really well. You can get the file at:
