Is it possible to hack my digital camera?

(Excuse me if this is in the wrong section. I didn't find a specific section for this topic)

I bought a HP Photosmart 720 Digital camera recently and i'm getting used to it. Although it is primarily a still camera, this unit allows me to capture 30 second video clips with audio. The number of clips is limited only by memory card size. (A 30 sec vid on this cam comes out to about 6MB). I can store about 20 clips on the 128MB card I use with this cam. (I aso have some spare memory)

Now, the quality of the catured video is not that bad and this got me thinking. Since I don't have a video camera (and I don't plan to get one anytime soon), it would be really nice if I can somehow hack/trick the camera and increase or completely remove the video capture time limit.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance folks.

I would imagine, you could just use the camera as is, and just use software that allows you to record to your hard drive from a capture device and record that way. You would of course be limited by how long your cord was, but you could make your own home movies.

Seriously though, hacking the code in the camera is probably the only way.

Have you Googled?

Recording via a cable to a hard disk is kinda tough at the basketball game, EvilRick!

thunderbolt - I'm in a similar situation, and have learned that some cameras use firmware, kind of like CDRW drives use. As for which cameras? I do not know, but I believe HP is not one of them. Post any links if you find some, I searched usenet via Google and I found only hints.

I have a Panasonic with the same situation, I haven't found a way yet
Would be nice though.
I did find out though, that my camera just adds a drive letter to my computer. So when it's plugged in it is actually like a HDD,and I can move files with any extention to the memory card.MP3,zip ect.

Just some useless info

nonononono - they want to make the camera record segments that are 128 meg long, instead having the camera stop at 6 meg!
