Kids SATA adapter questions

I have a SATA adapter that came with my mobo. It fits perfectly onto my harddrive (80gig WD Secial edition 7200rpm 8meg cache). Now I noticed that there is a small plug socket for power on the back of this adapter. Is that to power the harddrive or do I need to plug a regular molex into the hdd as well?

These SATA connector adapters are as diff from each other as chalk and cheese. Many different varieties, like Heinz soup.

So, there is really no generic answer. Did it come with the mobo? Then check the mobo manufacturers website for an answer.

Oh, the HDD WILL need a separate molex connector. IDE doesn't power like that. The question is whether the ADAPTER needs power.

Not much help, eh?

Cheers
Mick
