UT 2003 Lockup problem

Hey, I decided to finally get Unreal Tournament 2003. Figured, why not, only 30 dollars.
Ne ways, installation appeared to go fine, so i started it up, setup my user profile etc...
Start playing for about 5 mins, and the game just stops.
No error screen
No blue screen.
Just stop of motion
Alt + tab , ctrl + alt + del, all non responsive.
Caps lock button on keyboard didnt even do anything (didnt make the LED light up)
I restarted, there wasnt a "windows has recovered from a serious error" message. I started up the game again and it worked fine for about 45 min - an hour and it did the same thing. Eventually it did it again after about 30 mins
I read the readme which states a possible problem with nvidia 40.41 drivers, but im pretty sure mine at 43.45
Has anyone else had a similar problem?

As for comp specs...

AMD XP 2000+ (tbred)
Soyo dragon ultra kt333 Mobo
Asus v8420 GF4 ti4200
512 ddr pc2100 crucial
IBM deskstar 120 80GB HDD
Windows XP Profesionall w/ SP1 installed

I was haveing the same problems and it turned out to be my power supply...

what are you using?

It might also be a Heat related problem... is your case cooled enough?

sounds like load induced problems - ie power supply not powerful enough or overheat when your cpu is redline for so long

Well on full load my temps reach around 47 C for cpu and the case around 37C

Power supply i suppose is a possibliity
It was a fairly cheap case (around 35 or 40 dollars + 20 shipping) w/ a 350W codegen included
If there was a lack of power wouldnt it cause the computer to shut down or restart rather than just freezing and having the screen stay there?

Does this game cause the graphics card to draw alot more power than other games?
I've played games like morrowind and warcraft 3 with settings as high as possible for 3-4 hours constant without any lockups

yes Unreal 2003 draws a lot more than all those games...

I think your problem is the PSU....

With your specs

You need a 400w - 500w PSU to run fully stable,,,

I didnt believe it untill i hooked up the PSU and started playing...

No more lock ups or restarts...

Codegen equals cr@p. Get an Antec TruePower 430 or 480 watt power supply. ti4200 cards are comfortable with at least 28 max amps on the 3.3 volt rail.

BTW I was at a CompUSA tonight and saw the TruePower 550 on clearance. If I only had the money!
I use an Antec TruePower 480 watt "TrueBlue"
Other options that wont hurt are Antec SmartPowers 350 watt and up. Compare voltage rail specs.

K, well thx for the help, i was hoping it was just something software related, oh well.

IS there any real difference between the "true power" antecs and the others? I dont really have 90 bucks to burn on a true power 480 psu at the moment. The one that looked reasonable to me was... http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...103-912&depa=1

Any opinions/suggestions?

It will do!
Here is another option that has been recomended from a forum I frequent.
link SmartPower 350

While I do have a stronger PSU TruePower 480 watt in my nForce2 build, I do have a new Antec case with a SmartPower 350 watt included. I plan on using it in a future build.
BTW my latest build details:
SI K7N2G-ILSR with S Bracket
