256MB vs 128MB

Can someone explain me what is the difference from a 128MB and a 256MB Video card?

I mean, its the 256 MB worth it? All the textures in the games are going to be loaded in the memory correct? But 256MB its a lot!
Doom3 and HL2 will use all that memory??

Thanks

Not all of it but probably most. Especially with AA.
I know even some large Q3 maps take up to 60MB. Some 3DMark03 scenes eat up to 128MB if I'm not mistaken ...

hmm I see....but how can you justify more than 500$ for a video card! YOU can build system for that price!

Those prices drop pretty fast...don't bother with buying a new video card when it's that much right after it's out...

But when the price drops, it is worth buying 256, i plan on the 9800 pro 256MB ati sapphire version later on.

Will it last longer? Will games be better? Ect, ect, ect...

I think for now it is not worth it.... they are too expensive, and current games will run just fine on 128mb...

I say it's better to get a stick of 512ram and set your aperture to 256mb... so that the video card borrows what it needs.

U save yourself a bunch of money..

It's not that simple...onboard video memory is best...

But no 256mb is not going to be necessary or much of a benefit for several months down the road.
