BareBones Help, will not bootup...

Ok I just got a barebones system from TigerDirect, here is the link to the system: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...255-xp-2000-bk

Here are the basic's incase the link dosn't work:
XFX MACH 4 KT400ANB ATX Socket A Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP2000+
XFX GeForce4 MX440se video card
2 - 256MB PC2700 DDR 333MHz
Seagate 20.4GB EIDE 7200/2MB/9.0/ATA-100 Hard Drive
Avus 52x24x52 Internal IDE CD-RW
Sony Floppy drive
Speeze - Socket A/370 Cooling Fan up to XP 2800+
Netgear PCI network card
PCI modem not sure of brand?
planning XP Pro OS

Here is my problem, it will not go into the BIOS upon bootup Here is what I get on startup
it reads the KT40ANBR.B11 motherboard, AMD 2000+, Mem Clock Speed of DDR266, 1st Master ST320013A 3.31, 2nd Master ATAPI CDRW 52xMax 160D.

Then Floppy disk fail (80)
CMOS checksum error - Defaults Loaded

And then it will not do anything? I have checked the floppy cable in both ways, same results as above. I did clear the CMOS, before I realized that the floppy cable was in wrong, the light was always on at first. Could clearing the CMOS be causing my problem?

I'm sure I have given too much information and forgot something that you do need to know in order to help me, so just let me know what it is.

Thank you for your help, Darald

try disconnecting the floppy altogether and then boot. If that works, then get a new floppy and cable... you should be able to get one at your local computer store for $8-10

Yeah, do that. You may have the wrong floppy drive listed in BIOS to - that'll do it as well.

Do you need the floppy? Leave it out if not.

Cheers
Mick

BTW, welcome to TechIMO!!

what do u mean it will not go into the bios on boot up ? it doesn't go into the bios automaticly . you have to hit a key to get into the bios . some use the delete key so use f1 some use a combo of keys .

I already tried disconecting the floppy, didn't help.

I have tried hitting the deleat key and F1, neither starts the BIOS setup. Not hitting any keys also gets the same result.

This is a brand new system, the BIOS has not been changed from factory settings.

Thanks for the replys, Darald

What chipset is it? Should be listed at the top of the boot up screen.

Might help determine what the BIOS enter key is.

Cheers

Chipset:
- VIA Apollo KT400 North Bridge
- VIA 8235CD South Bridge

But I got this off the website, not the startup screen, not at the computer in question at this time... sorry

That don't tell me what I need to know about the BIOS unfortunately. I'll see if I can find specs for that mobo...

Cheers

maybe this is off topic but if it doesn't go into the BIOS automatically and you don't have the OS installed yet what happens when it finishes it's failed run to boot from the floppy? kind of a n00b question but i'm sort of curious. i'm going to be buying a barebones system soon.
