Scandisk not running after bad shutdown

How do I enable scandisk to run just before windows starts when I don't shut down Windows Xp properly?
For some reason it was like this after I installed it.
Using Win XP Pro with latest Service packs installed.
Thanks.

If you are using NTFS scandisk will not run when you boot after a hard shutdown like it did when using FAT32 partitions. NTFS is better at handling the file structures.

I still don't think it runs scandisk even with FAT32 (I would suggest converting to NTFS, you can do it without losing data or reinstalling).
