NIC Driver not loading properly

My sis has an older pc running Win98se and the NIC is 3C905C-TX. I recently re-fromated and re-installed all the drivers. I downloaded the most recent driver, 3c90x1.exe, and installed all the windows patches. But my device driver shows a ? by PCI communications device and I also have an unknown device. Any suggestions?

Does it show the network card under device manager? The only PCI communications device my BIOS shows is my modem.

You probably unpacked the '3C90x1.exe' and then went into 'Device Mangler' to update the driver, if not, try that.

If you did, then you probably need to try installing all the mobo drivers. If that doesn't work, try removing the offending device and let Windows rediscover it on boot up. Point it to the 3Com folder w/ your unpacked driver files.

As for the 'Unknown' device, well, hopefully that will be cleared up w/ mobo drivers. You can try removing it as well, but it will probably just come back as 'unkown' again.

What model mobo is it? Does it have anything onboard? Did you install all the drivers for sound, modem, etc . . .

yes, under the network adapters it shows a 3Com PCI card installed. But under other devices, it shows a ? PCI Comm Device and an unknown device.
