Kids Making Games Backwards Compatible

I was reading in PC Gamer that HL2 will have settings that allow it to work on systems as old as 300 MHz with a TNT2. I think its a great idea that Valve is realizes not everyone is going out and buying top of the line parts every six months.

I personally have a P3 500 with a GeForce2 MX. And have problems running most games at this point. Yes, its four years old and very slow. I'm getting a new computer in the next month or so, but I was wondering if other companies with follow suit with Valve.

Will most games begin to have step down settings that allow a gamer to play the newest games on older systems? And if they do, won't they make more money?

I'm sure sales will be watched closely by others to see if the market is there. I have become graphichally(is that a word?) visually.... hooked though and going back to older games after seeing the new eye candy becomes difficult unless it was just a great game......like the Worms series.... WA in particular.

They may make more money...but they'd ruin the game...it would be bigger, and for the games best graphics to be as good development would take a lot longer...bad idea.

I hadn't heard that Chrono..... I think its a great idea. Should give the game a more broad market with which to sell to.
