when downloading are you using your Down speed or UP

i was just wondering is, the files u download anywhere like kazaa using ur down speed to download the files or does it involve your up speed as well, right now i have 768 down and soon as those remote terminals come into the neighbor hood i can get 1500mbits with just the same 128k up. and right now my down speed transfer is around 80

Well Kazaa uses both because it is reading your shared files and then using your bandwidth to share those files...even if your not actively downloading something and no one is actively downloading from you, your connection bandwidth is being used.
when you access the internet you are using your upload connection to access/find the pages...then you are using your download bandwidth to bring the info to your computer to view those pages.
Am I answering your question right?

downloading is always the higher number, so you should be able to download at pretty good speeds.. but upload (sending FROM your computer) are generally much slower.

768/128 is fine for most people unless you do heavy downloading.

768 = downloading from a webpage or kazaa or something.
128 = uploading FROM your computer to another PC

But if you are maxing out your upload your download will goto pot because of delays of ACKs.

transfers on kazaa are normally well below your connection speed anyway - best are normally about 20kbs

With adsl, if you upload at 100%, your download will slow down.
