Converting Tapes to CD/Mp3

i'm looking to take old spoken word tapes and convert them to either mp3 and/or eventually burn them onto cd.

i also have downloaded mp3 of spoken word (approx 40 min talks) and have burned them as an audio cd.

questions are these.....are there programs out there that will make the first task easier? i know i'll have to have a tape deck hooked up to the line in and then i can record as a .wav, but how do i convert to mp3?

second.....for the 40 minute single file mp3, are there programs that will split it into more tracks? i would like to have it done either manually or automatically (much like many video editing packages will split it into smaller clips for editing).

i already have nero, maybe this will do it somehow? thanks for the advice.

You might also wanna check out http://www.supermp3recorder.com/ It records directly to mp3 format whether coming from line input or from streaming audio from your sound card, so you don't have to convert from a .wav to a .mp3

You can also convert your .wav file to mp3 format using an audio convert like Easy CD-DA Extractor 5.1. Here is the link for it http://download.com.com/3000-2140-10...ml?tag=lst-0-1

To split your mp3 files into separate tracks, use a program like MP3 TrackMaker 1.5. Here is the link for it http://download.com.com/3000-2169-10...ml?tag=lst-0-2

If you need anymore help just pm me

Well, if you want to go straight to CD, you can just record them as individual WAV files (manually stopping & starting to create 1 file per "track"). Then just burn those WAV's straight to CD. No need to go to MP3, really...unless you plan on playing them in an MP3 player. Any burning program should burn WAV's to an Audio CD, or just Windows XP all by itself has Roxio built in to burn an audio CD from WAV's

When recording the WAV's for the last project I did as such, I named the files so they would be alphabetically chronological: putting track numbers at the beginning of the filename. I was taking an 8-track dat tape and putting it to CD. Some good clean-up software would have been nice, though I have yet to find some that is affordable...but the person I was doing it for was happy with the quality (I myself am much pickier, but it was not my baby).
