VGA to DVI or new video card?

I recently bought a HD ready Sony LCD with DVI-I connector. I use my PC on the TV for web, music juekebos, video editing etc. I want to use my TV as a monitor. It seems I have two options. 1) a convertor from VGA to DVI or 2) A new video card with DVI output. Any help? Which is best?

What kind of card are you sporting now?

Nothing special. The regular VGA that comes on the Compaq EVO machine. I convert the VGA output to s-video analog signal and run it to the hame theater receiver. Quality is so so in 640x480. The real problem is with software that requires better resolution in which case the quality is really bad. I also have a Hauppauge WinTV card with tuner, recording and reproduction capabilities using a S-video connection to my Home theater receiver. My problem is with the regular PC output at higher resolutions.

If your not going to play any games or do anything that requires real high graphic cards. I would sugest getting a converter. You have to remember if its fine right now for graphics power why bother. The other thing is how much do the convertsers cost?

It seems there are several DVI conectors. The link one seems to me it is for an analog DVI since the VGA signal is analog. In my case I am connecting vga which is analog to DVI-I which is digital in a LCD big screen TV. Link 1 I think will not work. The signal needs to be converted from analog to digital. I will look into the video card as an alternative since the prices are much lower. Thanks for the info.

I'd just go with a new video card that's already got a converter. Since you said the image quality already wasn't great, it'll be an improvement.
