That board only supports Athalon/Duron CPUs AFAIK

He said he has an AMD 1.53Ghz., what do you suppose that is, certainly not a k6-2 or a Pentium?

yeah buddy, you might consider a FI VIA KT400 AD77 Infinity chipset, should be under 140$ and will work very well with the CPU that u have right now. It also has AGP 8x and a whole bunch of goodies built in, it also supports up to 4 gigabytes of DDR 400 RAM

He could also buy a new Dell or Compaq and it would correctly identify his processor, but I didn't see a question in his original post about where he could spend more money to correctly indentify his CPU.
Turnip is right, it is more than likely addressed in a BIOS update. If I'm not mistaken it probably says Unknown CPU @ 1530Mhz. Which means it is running correctly. If you are unfamiliar with updating your BIOS, I would suggest not doing it unless there is a problem. If you check your BIOS settings and your CPU is set to run at 133FSB x 11.5 multiplier than you are not having a problem.
