If I remember correctly, those AD11 motherboards are old.. Maybe older than the processor.

Have you tried looking for a BIOS update?

Other than the cpu not being properly named, does the system run correctly?

That board only supports Athalon/Duron CPUs AFAIK

yeah buddy, you might consider a:
DFI VIA KT400 AD77 Infinity chipset, should be under 140$ and will work very well with the CPU that u have right now. It also has AGP 8x and a whole bunch of goodies built in, it also supports up to 4 gigabytes of DDR 400 RAM

your mobo may have automatically underclocked the cpu so as to utilize it, but does not recognize its true speed or name.
Gothic may be right...I don't think there is a bios update that will upgrade to that processor but I could be wrong.
Look it up and see!

Find out what your current bios revision is, and check out this page.

http://www.fic.com.tw/support/mother...spx?model_id=1

If I remember correctly there was a bios update that made it possible to correctly identify your CPU, not positive for that board, but they do have an update that "Support new AMD string", it might be what you're looking for. I'm willing to bet you just need to update your bios. Now that I've thought about it for a bit, I'm pretty confident that's what you're looking for, although I'm sure a more recent bios update wouldn't hurt. I seem to recall there being a problem with some of the boards around that time going from the Thunderbirds up to the XPs. I'm pretty sure it was that AMD String revision that allowed the mbs to correctly identify the CPU. Not 100% on that though.

He said he has an AMD 1.53Ghz., what do you suppose that is, certainly not a k6-2 or a Pentium?

He could also buy a new Dell or Compaq and it would correctly identify his processor, but I didn't see a question in his original post about where he could spend more money to correctly indentify his CPU.

Turnip is right, it is more than likely addressed in a BIOS update. If I'm not mistaken it probably says Unknown CPU @ 1530Mhz. Which means it is running correctly. If you are unfamiliar with updating your BIOS, I would suggest not doing it unless there is a problem. If you check your BIOS settings and your CPU is set to run at 133FSB x 11.5 multiplier than you are not having a problem.

hmm depending on the revision you have by this chart from fic

ftp://ftp.fic.com.tw/motherboard/cpu...cketa/AD11.pdf

you might be able to flash the motherboard and be ok .
