not giving up yet!!!

This is the 11th forum I've registered to in finding a solution to a problem. So I won't be surprised if I get no reply to this but I'm not going to give up as I'm sure somebody somewhere will have a solution.

I'm a musician, I use CubaseVST32, Cubasis, CubaseSX and SonarXL. All are great programs generally/
My Soundacrd is SB Audigy Platinum ex wioth latest drivers
I have the NF7-s mobo with AMDAthlonXP2200+..I previously had the MS K7 pro motherboard.

Problem: Midi timing..Basically recording earlier than the metronome beeps. This ONLY happens on all the cubase app but doesn't happen on the SonarXL . Audio seems to be ok in all of them. I know it can't be anything do with Cubase settings beacuse like I say, it affects ALL the cubase apps and besides, I've checked and trired everything there is to check and try. My current feeling is it could be something to do with the fact that I'm using a new mobo, my previous mobo didn't have this problem at all. Is it possible that a wrong bios setting could cause this problem? Motherboard drivers are up to date but I have not updated the bios as yet.

someones gotta know something for me to atleast take a look at. Maybe some windows setting is wrong, or some bios setting is wrong, I don't know..but I do know that I don't want to spend another hour looking for another forum to type this problem again, its driving me nuts and I have a lot of important recording to catch up on

mart

Welcome to TechIMO. Hope someone here can help you.

Perhaps a few more specs would help. OS, RAM, etc.

yes welcome ..

hmm if it only happens in the one app it would make me think the app is the problem not the system . i have no idea how those software work at first i thought maybe the clock on the pc was fast but you said that it works fine in one app but not the other . hopefully someone here uses those and can help ya out .

did you re-format and re-install your os when you switched mobo?

dont see why cubase wouldn't play nice with your new mobo but it might be worth re-installing cubase to see if there are some hidden settings that install sets based on your mobo

yeah...i'm suspect of the way cubase interfaces with the midi system.

have you tried the actual cubase forums? http://www.steinberg.net/en/ps/support/forums/

Also are you using a Mac or a PC? (cubase seems to be geared towards Macs, so maybe there is an issue there).

i assume when you say recording you mean you're using a midi keyboard to record in real time with a metronome that cubase generates, correct? if so how are you connecting your keyboard, serial, game/midi port, or usb?

Hi all..thanks for the welcome and the swift replied

Sorry I wasn't clear on system specs, I'll try to explain a bit more clearer this time.

ok..to answer some questions..my specs are below and hopefully theres enough there, I can't think of anything else.
Soundcard IS disabled in bios so as to use the Audigy drivers.

I did the format and reinstall when I put the mobo in.

I completely reinstall ALL the cubase apps, even removed as many entries I could find using a registry cleaning tool and then reinstalled only CubaseVST32 but the problems are the same which makes me think its definately not a cubase problem..

One of the questions I ask as to why SonarXL works and the Cubase doesn't..the only reason I can think of, and I'm probably totally wrong, but I do know that Sonar has something called a time stamp built into it which as far as I know helps to stop this sort of problem...so Omardeth..your suggestion about the clock on the PC is something I'd like to look at if you'd possible tell me how to do so or what the setting should be at. I'm willing to try anything at the moment whether or not it maybe wrong.

Hi Originel..I've seen the cesspit known as cubase.net (I actually laughed and cried at the same time when you mentioned cubase forums ) and am still waiting for a reply from last week. this is the reason I'm here today, 11 forums on, because most are basically empty or not related to my problem.

I connect my keyboard (korg triton) to the external midi connectors of my SB Audigy, not the gameport on the card itself.
and yes I do record in realtime using the Audio metronome that cubase generates, I've also tried truning the audio metronome off and using the midi generated clicks but I get the same result

..
I hope I've answered all the questions and once again, thanks for the nice welcome.

the clock setting is merely the speed at which it runs (in gigahertz). the 2200 is supposed to be 1.8gHz. it's possible that running at that high of a frequency is causing some issues elsewhere. if this is the problem the only way i know of to fix the problem is to underclock the processor (make it run a lot slower, which is very undesirable). I actually have the same issue with one of my joysticks. the timing in my system is too much for this stick and so it produces erratic behavior, but it still works fine on my older machine... but that may not be the case since it's only cubase that does it.

i still think it is cubase...not a bad install or option but the actual algorithm the program uses to interpret midi signals and such, so a new install won't fix it. i would try and get an update to the program if one is available and see what that does.

I already have the latest version of cubaseVST32 which is 5.1r1..there is a beta version 5.2 but I hear its more trouble than its worth

I can't update SX as its only the demo and cubasis is a bundled version which came with my soundcard, so theres no support for SX or cubasis.
I've already called steinberg tech support but they too are baffled by it.
