Help with IBM ThinkPad R40e!!!

We are in the process of purchasing around 80 new laptops, and have borrowed one from a reseller to test for two weeks.

However, we need to install Windows 2000, and have no luck. Hardly any devices found have any drivers, and the ones we download from IBM won't work eighter! We've tried everything, but it seems we need help. Desperatly.

Does anyone know anything about this model? I am reinstalling it now. What drivers, and in what order should I install?

Hmmm
If its really that much work just trying to figure it out NOW before you've purchased it... you're willing to support this product for the next few years?

You can't even get the OS installed!

IMO it sounds like too much labor, cut the losses and move on to the next product. Either that or contact the reseller, if they really want to sell 80 laptops they should be willing to do whatever they can to help you out.

If you're buying 80 laptops you don't want to stress just to get ONE working.

Sorry can't help regarding the actual laptop but a suggestion just the same

That's just the thing. 80 Laptops. That's a lot of money...if we choose a model that's $100 more, there will be an $8000 difference.

Quite true.. or you could spend 100 bucks less and spend 15k in time of labor working on these things all the time over the next 3-4 years

This is why I never want to be a manager

Realistically I would highly suggest getting help from the reseller, they should be working with you to get what you want.. they're salesmen. they want a sale and should do what YOU want them to do to get the sell.

You may well find that if you ask the reseller, you can get OS options....

Well it turns out, this particular model has no support for 2000 from IBM at all. They only support XP Home/Pro.

Vass, you're right. There's no way we can use these machines. We need good support if we are to buy 80 laptops.

So now there's just the fun part left: Tell the boss that the model he choose is useless to us.
